Inducted into Bowler Division in 2001

Marianne Snow was born on May 2, 1957, with bowling in her blood. The second daughter of Hall of Famer, Al Snow, it was obvious that Marianne would be a natural in the sport. At the age of five, Marianne started bowling at Queensway Bowl, in the west end of Toronto, where her dad was a coach. Her first major title was secured in 1969, when Marianne won the Canadian Bantam Girls Singles crown in Hamilton, where she bowled a 279 single, as part of a 712 triple.

Marianne, bowled in her first Open in 1976, and was a member of the winning mixed team, for York Simcoe, that went to the National Finals in Regina, Saskatchewan. Marianne has qualified a total of ten times for the Open, seven with York Simcoe and three with Huronia. Moreover, Marianne was a singles representative for York Simcoe three times and finished fourth in the step-ladder once. Marianne was on the York Simcoe ladies team that won the gold medal at the Ontario Winter Games, in Kingston, in 1979, along with Sue Wise (Topping), another inductee tonight, and set both the four game record of 1150 and the eight game record of 2027.

Marianne joined the Master Bowlers Association in 1975, at the age of eighteen, and, in 925 games, averaged 245. In addition, she won three tournaments over a fourteen year period. Her first win was in 1984 in the Oktoberfest tournament. She followed that with the Fall Classic in 1985 and the Double Knockout in 1986. Marianne also won Canadian titles with Ontario Masters Ladies team in 1979. In 1980, she was the Bowler of the Year in Ontario and proceeded to win the Canadian Singles championship, in Vancouver.

Family life changed for Marianne, when she moved to Schomberg, where she met Barry Corbet. They were married in 1978 and have two daughters Cheryl, twenty, and Candice, nineteen, both of whom, are graduates of the Youth Bowling Council.

Today, the Corbets make their home in Loretto. Marianne is an Accounting Administrator for Durabody and Trailer. Bowling is still a family affair, as Marianne and Cheryl, bowl in the SLM Match Play league at Stellar Lanes, in Newmarket and Candice bowls in London, while attending school. The SLM league attracts many of York Simcoe’s best bowlers, which might be one reason why Al Snow has come out of retirement and is bowling with his daughter and granddaughter, in the league. In fact, Marianne and Cheryl were part of the Holiday Classic Provincial Championship team last year, that are heading to the Dominican Republic in November.

Tonight Marianne takes her rightful place, alongside her father, in the Bowlers division of the York Simcoe Hall of Fame.
